The general responsibilities of this position are focused on book-keeping,
financial management and oversight. Responsibilities include financial planning
and management, as well as managing the day to day financial transactions of
the Co-op. In addition, as the food hub development proceeds, the position
would include development, consultation and implementation of the new in-house
accounting software and procedures.
As a small and rapidly developing co-operative enterprise, this work involves
maintaining and improving systems and also establishing new systems as the
operations of the co-op change and expand.
As a salaried worker, work hours are initially flexible but will be eventually
dependent on the store and co-op hours, with some flexibility when the time off
is arranged well in advance and all responsibilities are covered.
Finances/ Book-keeping
The Financial Coordinator will provide basic book-keeping and entry of
transaction in in-house system—deposit records, investment records, accounts
receivable and payable and other daily transactions—either online or in the
Co-op hub as needed.
Financial Coordinator will assist the Co-op Coordinator to develop and present
annual budgets as well as financial presentations to board and co-op members as
needed.
• Manage budget for all activities
• Provide oversight and development of ongoing budgets and fundraising needs
assessment
• Draft and revise as needed all budgets for WEFC, including annual co-op
budget; circulate for executive and board review and approval
• Review and approve new cost requests/ needs
• Write cheques and maintain all records for financial transactions
• Do deposits in a timely fashion
• Maintain financial data/ chart of accounts, etc. in good order
• Maintain community bond records: follow up on incomplete records, incomplete
agreements, missing memberships for bonds, etc.; ensure prompt payment of
interest when due.
• Conduct payroll management and oversight (currently with Ceridian)
Financial Systems Development
• Assess, recommend and implement financial management systems for new food
hub, including in-house accounting software and procedures
• Liaise with relevant staff and Board to assess systems and integrate with
other systems (such as PoS)
Store Development
This involves all aspects of the development of the food hub/ store space,
including:
• Work with the Co-op Coordinator to develop budgets: create financial plan/
budget for kitchen/ store
• Support development of cost analysis for kitchen installations as needed
• Oversight and development of ongoing budgets and fundraising needs assessment
during store development and launch
• Support staff in developing financial systems to track pricing, margins and the
administration of payments and deposits in the food hub
As with all staff and stakeholders, the position requires a commitment to a
democratic workplace.
This is a 6 month contract with the possibility of renewal. Compensation will
be in the range of $18-$25 per hour depending on experience Hours and workplace
are flexible. Working meetings will be held in the Parkdale area or at the WEFC
Co-op Store near Queen St. W. and Dufferin St., Toronto.
