As part of its National Volunteering programme
VSO invites young Rwandan graduates to support implementation of VSO’s Early
Childhood Education work. The opportunity for the applicant would be to work in
a leading international NGO and to contribute in the development process of the
Rwanda while at the same time earning valuable experience that complements
their educational qualification and provide them the work experience crucial
for future career prospects.

Role Overview
The National Volunteers will support
VSO’s Enhancing Quality of Early-Childhood Education in Rwanda project which is
funded by UNICEF. Each National Volunteer will work closely with an
International volunteer using good English-Kinyarwanda translation skills and
knowledge and experience of education and communities in Rwanda to facilitate
engagement of key project stakeholders, such as teachers, Head Teachers,
parents and other community members. Each position involves supporting 5
schools in developing model pre-primary practice in terms of teaching,
leadership and management, engagement with parents and provision pre-primary
education for children with special needs. These schools will be visited
frequently by Early-Childhood Education student teachers, based at a Teacher
Training college, for lesson observation and teaching practice.

Skills & Experience
It is essential that the applicant has:
A bachelor’s degree with good English-Kinyarwanda verbal translation skills and
adequate computer skills in MS office and internet skills.

Experience of engagement with a range of stakeholders at the community level
and/or understanding of effective, interactive training approaches and coaching
The applicant should be:
Resilient and energetic, patient and non-confrontational, committed and
motivated to bring about some difference in the lives of the Rwandans, flexible
to changing schedule and adaptable to work to an ever-evolving plan, adaptable
to new ways of working and innovative and creative when working with few
resources.

to work as National Volunteers. Each successful applicant will work in

Living Allowance and Duration of
Position

Each successful candidate will receive
a living allowance of 120,000 RWF per month. The opportunity will be for
a period of 6 months from January 2016 to June 2016 with an opportunity to gain
a second contract from July to December 2016 with good performance. Only
candidates who are prepared to commit to the full duration of the position
should apply. Ideally you will be prepared to start your training for the
position on 4th January 2016.
