The United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UNICTR), Registry, Judicial and Legal Services Division, Legal Library and Reference Unit. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Chief, Legal Library and Reference Unit, Arusha.

Responsibilities
The incumbent will directly report to the chief, Legal Library and reference Unit with the following responsibilities: Identify and select relevant materials (books, journals and electronic resources) which can meet library users’ needs for both Arusha Library and sub-unit in Kigali.
– Assist the chief library in negotiating access to commercial legal databases.
– Participate in the assessment and evaluation of appropriate databases and electronic resources.
– Increase and update the multimedia library resources.
– Catalog, index, and assign subject headings and classification codes in accordance with established standards and guidelines (ISBD, ICTR Library keyword list, UNBIS, ICTR Library classification system, etc.).
– Supervise the works of library staff in cataloguing, indexing and delivering information to library users.
– Revise new entries in the library’s catalog.
– Improve the configuration of library management system to enable automation of the monthly acquisition list.
– Produce special bibliography on the work of the tribunal and acquisition lists.
– Participate in the building alliances with other institutions to support access to scientific publications provided by the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) to Rwandan Legal professionals via the sub-unit based in Kigali.
-Update list of Open Access resources for Outreach Library.
– Liaise with EDP and service providers to ensure an uninterrupted access to electronic resources.
– Install and configure databases and electronic resources on staff office desktop.
– Participate in the Outreach and Capacity building programme in Rwanda.
– Participate in the promotion of ICTR jurisprudence through provision of electronic and printed copies of judgments in Rwandan judicial institutions including universities.
– Participate in the ICTR library legacy projects.
– Provide research assistance to library users.
– Take active part in the production of the ICTR basic documents and case law in DVD and CDROM.
– Participate in the maintenance of the web database project.
– Any other tasks as assigned by the chief of the library.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in library science, information science or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in library work, use of legal library databases and training of users.

Languages
For the post advertised, fluency in both English and French is required.

Assessment Method
Competency-based interview.
