The School of St
Jude is a charity funded school that provides a free, high-quality education to
over 1,800 primary and secondary children from the poorest communities in Arusha.

The School is
currently seeking an experienced IT professional with management experience to
oversee our IT Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the
management of the IT Department at a large multi-site educational institution,
supporting over 2,200 users, managing over 500 workstations. This is a hands on
role, being the senior technical team member for escalated support issues,
while also overseeing budgeting, team leadership and planning overall IT
strategy.

Please note
this is a long term volunteer position that requires at least an 18 month
commitment

Key
Responsibilities:

  • Managing
    a team of eight technical staff
  • Preparation
    of yearly departmental budget
  • Senior
    technical support for elevated technical support issues
  • Computer
    networking and performance monitoring, including relevant experience in
    intranet and Internet service provisioning
  • Computer
    and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques
  • Administration
    of LAN and WAN infrastructure and Network hardware software
  • Server
    and workstation hardware management
  • Develop
    and implement preventive maintenance plan for the network
  • Review
    and update network configuration plan

Qualifications,
Skills & Attributes:

  • IT
    Degree or similar from a recognized University, or equivalent experience
  • Experience
    as a manager or 2IC in a medium to large IT Department
  • Troubleshooting
    network issues
  • Experience
    in Windows 2008 R2 based environment
  • Extensive
    knowledge of MS Exchange 2010
  • Extensive
    knowledge of VMware ESXi 5
  • Network
    design and implementation (Ethernet, fibre, wireless)
  • Firewalls,
    VPN and VLAN design
  • Server
    and network installation
  • Knowledge
    of SharePoint
  • Helpdesk
    management, user support
  • IT
    staff training and mentoring
  • Strong
    inter-personal and communication skills
  • Effectively
    prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Database
    Knowledge (MS Access, MS SQL Server)
  • Library
    catalogue systems
  • VLAN
    and subnet design
  • Citrix
    terminal server
  • Working
    in an education environment (school, college, university)
  • Experience
    with Smoothwall Firewall & Web Filter
  • Experience
    with Veeam backup technology
  • Unifi
    wireless networks
  • Microsoft
    Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate
    (CCNA) or similar IT qualification and advantage
  • Familiarity
    of Spiceworks, Aruti Payroll, TASS School software
  • Work
    experience in a developing country and/or for an NGO

Living
Allowance:

International
volunteers receive a comfortable monthly living allowance, which is enough to
