Reporting to the
Vice President, Chapter Relations, the Director, Chapter Relations will serve
as key liaison to the leadership of the Chapters, working collaboratively
within The Association to communicate opportunities and resources available to
affiliates. Primary responsibilities include provision of consultation and
assistance to chapter executives and volunteer leadership in all aspects of
non-profit management and board gove
rnance. The Director, Chapter Relations
will assess organizational effectiveness of assigned chapters, monitor
progress, recommend strategies for improvement and assure compliance with
Association policies and procedures.
JOB SUMMARY:
Core duties and
responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties
may be assigned.
- Ensure
ongoing collaborative working relationships with both professional and
volunteer Chapter leaders, fostering and sustaining a culture of
cooperation, trust, communication, mutual support, teamwork and integrity.
- Act in
a consulting capacity, provide coaching and guidance in all aspects of
chapter operations and organizational development in order to assist
chapters in the process of capacity building and continuous improvement. - Provide
guidance and support during leadership transitions, serving as advisor to
chapters in the hiring of executive leadership and senior management, and
actively participating in the search process whenever possible. - Using
The Association’s Chapter Standards Self-Assessment Report, monitor
progress of assigned affiliates and recommend action steps to meet chapter
standards and strategic goals. - Create
awareness of The Association’s Strategic Plan and use it as a framework in
working with Chapters to update current or create new Strategic
Implementation Plans. Provide guidance in the entire planning process, up
to and potentially including the facilitation of Strategic Planning
retreats. - Assist
chapters in building strong boards by providing guidance on current best
practices in governance. Plan and deliver board development workshops and
retreats. - Promote
understanding and participation in Association-wide priorities and
initiatives across the chapter network. - Develop
strategies for unserved markets; identify opportunities for mergers and
consolidations. - Participate
in the development of workshop and retreat presentations and other
training resources. - Work
collaboratively within the organization, enhancing a team-oriented working
environment. Assist other Association program staff in identifying and
networking with chapter volunteer and staff leadership. - Instill
trust and confidence by keeping sensitive matters confidential. - Convey
a professional and positive image that reflects favorably on The ALS
Association.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS
Degree required - Five to
seven years’ experience in non-profit management, governance, fundraising,
and program development - Keen
understanding of the nonprofit sector and extensive knowledge of
non-profit best practices - Experience
in leadership development and training, with strong presentation skills - Experience
in strategic planning and retreat facilitation - Ability
to provide executive level coaching - Strong
administrative, management, and organizational skills - Ability
to travel up to 35% of the time for Association business as requested or
required - Ability
to perform consistently and effectively under pressure - Excellent
written and verbal communication skills - Self-motivated
and able to work with little supervision - Good
team player - Willing
to take initiative whenever appropriate - Demonstrated
analytical skills, ability to think strategically - Proficiency
with Windows and Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Access,
Excel and PowerPoint
