Summary of the study

The study investigated into knowledge and attitude of Health
Information Management Students towards HIV awareness amongst students of
Houdegbe North American University, Cotonou.
In examining the work, four research questions and
their hypotheses were drawn and formulated. The descriptive research design was
adopted for the study while the sample was 200 respondents obtained through the
multi-stage and accidental sampling techniques. Data were collected through the
use of structured questionnaire. Data collected were analysed using frequency
distribution tables and chi-square statistics at alpha 0.05 significant level
which was used in testing the hypotheses. The findings of the study show that

There is
significant level of awareness among the students of Health Information
Management students of Houdegbe North American University, Cotonou
on HIV/AIDS (ii) Health Information Management students of Houdegbe
North American University, Cotonou have a positive attitude
on  HIV/AIDS. Based
on the findings, the following recommendations were made; (i) there should be
information, education and communication programmes to reach
everyone-especially young people, and old people through community meeting,
also the application of mass media is recommended. The best educational
programmes seek to empower women by providing them with information, skills and
services that help them protect themselves. (ii) If HIV/AIDS preventive
education is to be effective, it must occur through all avenues of education
(formal and non-formal), through schools and through broader community channels
with strong political support. It should also match the various linguistic,
social and cultural realities of the groups being addressed.
