POSITION
SUMMARY
SNV
seeks two talented and result oriented WASH advisors for Gikuriro project. The
primary objective of this position is to improve the hygiene and sanitation at
household level and consistent use of, household sanitation and hygiene
facilities in order to decrease childhood stunting.
The
WASH advisors will support and mentor Gikuriro sub partners (Local NGOs) in the
implementation of WASH interventions at community level and document best
practices and lessons learned. The advisor will ensure the functionality of
Community Health Clubs established at village level while tracking impact made
by the project in the community. Furthermore the advisor will have the
responsibility for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of WASH
interventions in Gikuriro operation area.
GIKURIRO
Background
Gikuriro
is five years integrated Nutrition and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
Program funded by USAID. The program is implemented through a consortium of two
international agencies, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) who is the prime and a
sub-recipient, SNV the Netherlands Development Organization. The primary
purpose of Gikuriro is to improve the nutritional status of women of
reproductive age and children under five years of age in support of the
Government of Rwanda’s (GoR) efforts. Gikuriro implements the Ministry of
Health (MoH) two community-based programs; the Community Based Food and
Nutrition program (CBF&NP) and the Community Based Environmental Health
Program (CBEHPP) contributing to eliminating malnutrition.
The
present terms of reference aims to recruit two WASH advisors to support the
project in WASH activities related to SNV assignment in the program.
Gikuriro
area of operation
Kicukiro,
Nyarugenge, Nyanza, Ruhango, Rwamagana, Kayonza, Ngoma and Nyabihu
Main
responsibilities:
  • Compliance
    with the GoR Community Based Environmental Health Promotion Program
    (CBEHPP) roadmap and project scope of work;
  • Develop
    technical content relating to sanitation and hygiene training activities
    in concert with GoR stakeholders;
  • Coach,
    train and monitor Gikuriro sub partners (local NGOs) in the CBEHPP
    implementation and other WASH interventions;
  • Work
    closely with Gikuriro sub partners to ensure efficient WASH implementation
    at the community level
  • Facilitate
    learning, innovation, documentation and evidence based knowledge
    development in collaboration with Gikuriro staff and partners;
  • Designing
    methodologies and tools for data collection;
  • Develop
    monthly, quarterly and annual reports;
  • Regular
    review of reports from local implementing partners;
Candidate
profile
  • Academic
    qualification: MBA or MSc in environmental health sciences, public health,
    sanitation and hygiene, or related field;
  • Self-motivated
    achiever with excellent intercultural leadership, teamwork, coaching,
    communication, networking and organisational skills
  • 4+
    years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated
    organizational skills and astrong track record in meeting deliverables and
    deadlines;
  • Familiar
    with the Rwandan CBEHPP;
  • Wide
    knowledge of participatory and didactic methodologies and techniques;
  • Experience
    in coaching and mentoring local organizations and district staff;
  • Excellent
    ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in
    writing is required;
  • Attention
    to details, preciseness in the execution of tasks, solution-oriented
    working approach and negotiation.
  • Fluency
    in Kinyarwanda language.
Language
requirements
:
Very Good command of English.
Computer
Skills
:
Proficiency /Knowledge of Microsoft Office and skill in the use of Excel,
including complex/compound spreadsheets and other accounting package is
essential.
