Shelter For Life Civil/Structural Engineer Job Vacancy in Liberia

The position of Civil/Structural Engineer will be to assist in the completion of agricultural development projects , building storage facilities for commodity maintenance, improving grain mills. In addition, the Civil/Structural Engineer will, under direction of the Project Manager , work on the expansion of irrigation systems,
improvement of market-access roads, and various other structural/agricultural improvement projects. Position also oversees extension of credit to enhance farmers’ productivity and income level.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Works with Project Manager and local staff to ensure projects are completed in accordance with SFL Headquarters and donor guidelines.
• Under the director of the Project manager work on construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site.
• Provides technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to field personnel.
• Inspects project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.
• Estimates quantities and costs of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
• Test soils and materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt or steel.
• Computes load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
• Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.
• Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography , and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
• Works with the Project Manager on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, or property and right-of-way descriptions.
• In conjunction with the Project Manager participates in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction.

Education and Required Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Minimum five plus years’ experience. Experience in Africa, particularly with an NGO highly desired.
