SAFEGUARDING:
Level
3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have
regular contact with or access to children or young people.
PURPOSE
OF POSITION:
Reporting
to the CP program Manager, the Chid Protection Programme Assistant will
contribute to the planning and implementation of the Programme and the three CP
and CRG projects: Positive discipline, Child Domestic Work and IKEA project
(violence-free schools). The purpose of this role is to ensure effective
programme delivery by providing efficient and timely programme management assistance
and communications support.

KEY
AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Programme
Management Support
Ensuring
efficient and timely support to the CP&CRG staff, including the Managers,
CP&CRG Specialist, and CP &CRG MEAL specialist. The CP&CRG
Programme Assistant will:
  • Provide
    hands on support to the different program projects, including: 
    Supporting the organisation and implementation of workshops, training and
    meetings; Assisting in translation needs; Ensuring that project files are
    established and maintained; etc;
  • Lead
    on the organisation/ preparation for Programme-relevant National and
    International days/ events e.g. The Day of the African Child, etc.
  • Support
    monitoring of implementation progress according to the programme and
    project implementation plans;
  • Support
    cross-project learning by examining the effectiveness of implementation
    activities;
  • Assist
    in the planning of future project interventions through researching
    existing activities, exploring opportunities and gaps, etc.;
Communications
Support
Support
in programme communications work, including:
  • Acting
    as a liaison with Program partners on communication and
    information-sharing issues;
  • Producing
    Case Stories for use in reporting as well as internal and external
    communications;
  • Documenting
    and disseminating meeting minutes;
  • Draft
    content for the SCI Rwanda website, as well as social media accounts;
  • Designing,
    producing and updating CP&CRG brochures, posters, and other
    promotional materials;
  • Working
    closely with the procurement and logistics team on Programme related
    procurement and logistics activities;
  • Coordinating
    International Technical Advisors (TAs) visits and other program visitors
    to the SCI Rwanda office;
MEAL
Related responsibilities
  • Put
    together feedbacks on monthly action plan tracker from project staff and
    share with MEAL;
  • Continuously
    collect and maintain information on beneficiary reach and numbers for
    program outputs and activities
  • Provide
    Support in preparation for evaluations such as booking training venues,
    requests for budgets, transport bookings;
  • Ensure
    CRM database is filled regularly as instructed by line manager and liaise
    with program staff to provide CRM information
  • Collect
    and share CRM (customer relationship management) information with MEAL as
    requested and document lessons learned and ensure learning is shared
    across the team as appropriate
Child
Safeguarding
  • Ensuring
    full understanding of the provisions of the Child Safeguarding Policy, the
    Code of Conduct and Local/Country Procedures
  • Conducting
    oneself in accordance with the rules of the Child Safeguarding Policy, in
    both personal and professional lives – which includes reporting suspicions
    of child abuse;
  • Ensuring
    the way he/she is carrying out his/her work is not putting children at
    risk (or further risk) – this means constantly scrutinizing the work
    through a child safeguarding lens and talking to children about possible
    design/implementation “flaws”
  • Promoting
    the message of child safeguarding to colleagues in other organizations and
    government ministries, children in their own and beneficiary families, and
    community members in general ;
  • Being
    vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm in their personal and
    professional lives. 
Other
  • Assist
    the CP and CRG Programme Managers and staff with other day-to-day
    activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential
  • University
    degree in Social sciences, media or other relevant studies;
  • Demonstrated
    experience (2 years or more) in support of planning, implementation and
    management of programmes in an international development/NGO context;
  • A
    sound understanding of the Child Protection and Child Rights Governance
    sectors;
  • Strong
    conceptual skills and the ability to think innovatively and plan strategically;
  • Excellent
    communication skills, including fluency in written and spoken English and
    Kinyarwanda, and strong inter-personal skills;
  • Understanding
    of and commitment to SCI mission, values and child rights-based
    programming approaches;
  • Ability
    to work successfully and efficiently with minimal supervision and strong
    IT skills including Microsoft Office, content management systems and web
    based communication.
Desirable
  • Experience
    in working in communications, event organisation in a setting of NGO
    working for the for/ in the interests of children;
  • Basic
    understanding of key issues in the field of child rights and child
    protection, the school environment and/or child labour.
  • Experience
    of working in a fast-paced, result-oriented and culturally-diverse work
    environment.
