The Centre has an opening for a Farm Coordinator.
The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, now in
its 34th year, is the longest-running
spiritual retreat centre on the west coast and is known for its vegetarian
cuisine and organic farm. We are seeking a Farm Manager to oversee and
participate in cultivation of approximately 3 acres of vegetable and fruit production.
Most of the produce is used on site in the Centre’s commercial kitchen for
guests, program participants, and residents. Excess food may be sold at the
farm stand and distributed to a local food bank.
The Farm Manager will supervise full-time farm workers over the season, running
from March through November. The Farm Manager would be required to have some
overlap time with the current manager at the beginning of December 2015.
The successful applicant will have prior farming experience, a strong sense of
organization and planning, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to
manage workers. Applicants should also have a strong desire to experience life
in a working community based on yoga philosophy and practice.
In keeping with the volunteer nature of almost all work at the Centre, the
position offers indoor housing, delicious organic, vegetarian meals, access to
all community classes. The Farm Manager is part of the Agricultural Committee
which guides farm policy and practices. The Centre Farm voluntarily
relinquished its organic certification a year ago but still adheres to all
organic practices.
