As an integral part
of the senior management team at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, the Director of
Husbandry is responsible for all aspects of the aquarium animal husbandry at
both the Toronto aquarium and the Marine Science Building located in
Buffalo.   In addition to review and oversight of animal care and protection,
the Director of Husbandry manages the husbandry teams in both locations and
works in conjunction with the other operating departments to ensure a positive
guest experience throughout Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada.

This position
reports to the General Manager, as well as to the V.P. of Husbandry at Ripley
Entertainment corporate office.

Specific
responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

• Set up,
  care, and maintenance of live exhibits, animal necropsy, disease
  recognition and treatment, veterinary assistance, nutrition, water
  chemistry, records, life support system operation, field collecting, animal
  transport, animal acquisition, quarantine, and species identification
• The
  hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, evaluation, and disciplinary
  action of all husbandry interns, aquarist, and senior aquarist. This
  includes the Dive Safety Officer and all Aquarium divers
• Develop
  and administer the husbandry/diving budget
• Create
  and maintain a capital project request and provide budgetary projections
  as required
• Develop
  and maintain the Aquarium Dive Safety Manual and ensure the safety of all
  Aquarium divers
• Coordinate
  all scientific research activities of the Aquarium
• Maintenance
  of all mechanical and electrical building systems and collecting equipment
  at the Marine Science Building
• Involved
  in the design and install new exhibits for both in-house and conventions
  displays, and assist with the planning of new Aquariums
• Strive
  to promote higher standards of quality, service, and professionalism in
  the Husbandry/Dive staff of Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada

• Bachelor
  of Science Biology, Marine Biology, or related field
• A
  minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar environment. Preferable in a
  senior or Director level role
• Demonstrated
  experience in universally accepted general aquarium husbandry skill areas
  which include: 
•  
       Marine organism collecting, handling, transport,
  acclimation and captive care
•  
       Animal quarantine, clinical treatments and marine
  animal health
•  
       Live exhibit aesthetics design, construction and
  maintenance
• Experience
  in managing budgets and staff in a high pressure environment
• Scuba
  certification
• Valid
  Driver’s License
