- Duties and Responsibilities
The post will be
based in the new Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction (IRDR) based at
University College London, whose aim is to lead research, knowledge exchange
and advanced teaching in the area of risk and disaster reduction. The
appointment will be part of a joint research initiative with the Catholic Agency
for Overseas Development (CAFOD), working on the project ‘Water Risk and its
Management in Bolivia’s Altiplano Development Strategy’. The post holder will
conduct scientific studies of water risk linked to quantity and quality issues
associated with development activities and carry out laboratory analysis of
water quality and hydrological modelling. As the role involves field work in
Bolivia, a working knowledge of the Spanish language is required.

- Key Requirements
a PhD (or equivalent relevant experience) in hydrology, hydrogeology or
hydrogeochemistry, and the ability to undertake independent fieldwork in
challenging environments. The appointee will have strengths in laboratory
analytical skills, analysis and synthesis, as well as a record of published
research in peer-reviewed journals.
