GL-Garrad Hassan has been active in the solar industry since 2007 in Europe, Canada and the United States reviewing more than 1,000 MW of solar projects. As Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for supporting the continuing development of Independent Engineering solar and wind project technical due-diligence consulting services. The initial focus will be in solar and wind power technical consulting in the province of Ontario; however, this is likely to expand to other regions within North America. There is advancement potential as GL-GH’s North American solar power consultancy grows.

GL-Garrad Hassan is uniquely placed to understand the interplay between the technology, geography and environmental conditions, which drive commercial decisions and determine engineering solutions. They are also familiar with the policy economics and regulatory demands affecting the markets. As a result, GL-GH’s services provide real added-value for clients, helping to usher projects from pre-construction phases through financial closing.

The Project Management team coordinates the work flow and is responsible for the ultimate project success and customer satisfaction. Project Managers are the primary point of contact for the customer and are tasked with creating proposals, negotiating the scope of work, setting time lines, coordinating internal engineering discipline reviews, reviewing EPC contracts, appraising project construction budgets and long term financial pro formas. Project Managers provide the project stakeholders with expert independent engineering opinions. PM’s remain engaged to find real world solutions thereby enabling a successful project financial close.

Primary Responsibilities
• Develop service proposals for technical due diligence reviews of client solar and wind power projects.
• Initiate and coordinate engineering and technical review processes with internal specialists and engineers.
• Perform portions of overall solar and wind project due diligence reviews.
• Gather written reports from technical specialists and independent engineers. Assemble, edit and present to clients in draft and final reports.
• Track client responses to open issues from technical reviews, coordinate and monitor internal action and follow up communications.
• Coordinate construction monitoring activity when done by client staff.
• Assist project stakeholders in finding solutions to outstanding open issues raised in the due- diligence or construction monitoring process.
• Support clients’ financial closings of projects respecting the results of the firm’s Independent Engineers’ assessments and construction monitoring conclusions.
• Respect the time and attention of GL- GH clients with clear, concise, and timely written and verbal communication.
• Travel to project sites in remote and frequently rugged areas.
• Perform ongoing site inspections walking the entire site while monitoring construction progress, and confirming environmental mitigation efforts.
• Willing and capable of climbing a wind turbine tower of 80+ meters in height.

Primary Requirements
• Broad based experience, understanding and grasp of technical aspects of solar power generation and related mechanical, electrical, civil and environmental engineering issues and demands.
• Keen ability to sort out key technical issues and effectively communicate the impact in layman’s terms to the client.
• Demonstrated ability to develop viable solutions to mitigate technical issues.
• Successful experience in winning the respect of engineers or scientific authorities.
• Proven achievement independently managing multiple complex projects at once.
• Earned reputation for diplomatic negotiation skills endorsed by references.

Fundamental Qualifications/Requirements
• 5+ years successful professional level project management experience
• 2+ years experience in solar energy, power generation, and/or big ticket commercial construction project management.
• Progressive career history in technically focused business environments.
• Professional experience with commercial construction and supply contract terms, agreements, processes and procedures.
• Demonstrated functional experience with financial models and budgets.
• Ability to easily establish and maintain positive relationships with clients.
• Exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills. Ability to address groups.
• Fluent in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability and willingness to travel 25-30% of the time.

Educational Requirements
• 4 year degree from accredited university in engineering or related business studies. BS Electrical (Power), Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or Construction Project Management is highly desirable.
• Master’s degree and/or Professional Engineering registration preferred.
