PhD Scholarship in Hydroenvironmental Engineering at Cardiff University in UK

Cardiff University is offering PhD scholarship
for UK/EU & international students in the field of hydro environmental
engineering. The scholarship is available for pursuing a PhD degree based
on the project ’Field Testing and Numerical Modelling of a Tidal
Turbine’ under the supervision of Professor Thorsten Stoesser and Dr Alan
Kwan. The award will cover tuition fees at the Home/EU fee rate and will
provide a stipend at the UK Research Council rate (£13,726 in 2013/14) plus an
enhancement of at least £1,000 per annum but overseas candidates will be
required to fund the balance of fees at the overseas fee rate themselves.
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are provided in the field of hydro environmental
engineering offered by Cardiff University in UK.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD
degree level at Cardiff University in UK.
Scholarship Provider: Cardiff University, UK
Scholarship can be taken at: UK
Eligibility: Academic: Candidates should hold or expect to gain a First Class degree or a
good 2.1 and/or an appropriate Masters level qualification (or their
equivalent).
-Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate
proficiency in the English language (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent)
-Residency: The studentship is open to Home, EU or Overseas
candidates.
Scholarship Open for International Students: UK/EU & International students can apply for this scholarship.
Scholarship Description: The goal of this project is to deploy and test the performance and
sustainability of a pilot-scale vertical axis tidal turbine in the Severn
Estuary near Sully Island. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the deployment
site are to be investigated prior to deployment through a bathymetric survey
and point velocity measurements at a few selected locations. The field measurements
will be complemented by numerical simulations of the flow around the Island.
The obtained field data will be used for the validation of the CFD simulations,
and the simulation results will allow the determination of the ideal location
for turbine deployment.
Number of award(s): One scholarship is offered.
Duration of award(s): Scholarship is offered for three years.
What does it cover? The award will cover tuition fees at the Home/EU fee rate and will
provide a stipend at the UK Research Council rate (£13,726 in 2013/14) plus an
enhancement of at least £1,000 per annum. Please note that overseas candidates
will be required to fund the balance of fees at the overseas fee rate
themselves.
How to Apply: In the first instance interested applicants are invited to send a CV and
