collection of material relating to Australia and Australian people and related
resources from around the world. The Library collects a wide range of research
materials ranging from books and journals to paintings, drawings and prints,
manuscripts, photographs, maps, aerial photographs, music scores and oral
histo
ry recordings in analogue and digital form.
The Assistant Director-General, Information Technology manages the operations
of in-house technical specialists and business partners who will use a variety
of collaborative and governance models for different programs and projects. A
key challenge over the next few years is balancing the need for corporate, strategic
and niche solutions within the financial and other constraints of a publicly
funded national institution with an increasing focus on IT security needs. The
occupant must continuously improve services and operations to deliver against
the need for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
Reporting directly to the National Library’s Director-General, you will lead
the Information Technology Division of the National Library. You will be
responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of strategy and services
which represent just over 10% of the Library’s budgeted expenses and staff (45
people).
As part of the corporate leadership team for the National Library, you will
often represent the Library in relevant government and industry forums and may
be expected to serve in other areas of the Library’s executive.
The position is located in Canberra. Occasional travel may be required.
