Salary Range: $72,000 – $100,000 annually
Job Location: COS Headquarters, Victoria BC. Alternate locations may be

For more than 100 years, the Conservation Officer Service (COS) has worked to
protect British Columbia’s natural resources and environment as well as the
health and safety of its citizens. Its mission is to enforce natural resource
laws and respond to conflicts with wildlife, to protect human health and
safety, the environment, personal and public property and government revenues.
As a part of its vision, the Conservation Officer Service delivers programs
focused on providing leadership, innovation and services in support of the
natural resource sectors compliance and enforcement activities. Services
include providing expertise in environmental investigation and enforcement and
human wildlife conflict response and preventative programs.
The Inspector leads the interpretation and evaluation of legislation to
determine training, recruitment and professional development requirements,
evaluations and standards, and manages the development of training policies and
procedures to ensure consistency with legislation, enforcement methods,
government recruitment, retention and succession directives, and safety
standards. The position manages the development, implementation and evaluation
of a range of enforcement, compliance, investigative, human/wildlife conflict
response and reduction, and emergency training programs and policies. The
position identifies core competencies based on current position requirements,
and manages training functions to address mandatory competencies.
Qualifications for this role include:
• Degree or diploma in a related discipline such as administrative law, natural
resource management, natural resource enforcement, investigation and
enforcement, criminology or related discipline.
• Development of strategic training plans, business plans, and allocation of
human and fiscal resources.
• Development of course training standards and lesson plans.
• Delivery of recruitment and staff development initiatives.
• Handling of sensitive human resource issues.
