Marine Planning and Policy Advisor
The Marine Planning and Policy Advisory will provide technical review, support, and implementation coordination to the Stewardship Society’s fisheries management and marine
planning initiatives to support value-added benefits to the First Nations of the North Coast and Lower Skeena River. This is an initial 6 month contract. Opportunities to extend the contract are possible.
The successful candidate must demonstrate education, knowledge and experience related to the following:
Key Activities:
• Work with the Marine Planning Coordinator to provide technical review of key planning documents and to participate in key marine planning processes;
• Work with the Fisheries Biologist to provide technical review of key fisheries management documents;
• Assist in the development of marine planning and fisheries policy recommendations for consideration by First Nations government and technical staff
• Work with member First Nations to coordinate the implementation of key projects developed through the North Coast First Nations Marine Use Plan
Required Skills and Knowledge
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in or related to resource management, social and environmental sciences, and/or other relevant environmental discipline;
• Knowledge of key policy and management of fisheries resources, Federal and Provincial marine planning processes;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to take direction and to complete tasks in a timely manner;
• Ability to listen carefully and respectfully
• Comfort level working with people from multiple backgrounds, skills-sets and value systems
This position is based in Prince Rupert, BC. Prince Rupert is located on the northern edge of the Great Bear Rainforest, one of the largest areas of temperate rainforest in the world. It offers spectacular opportunities for exploration for any outdoors enthusiast. The city itself is bike friendly, with multiple restaurants, coffee shops, theatres and recreational facilities to enjoy. Compensation will be negotiated with successful candidate based on qualifications.
