Location: Just Food, Blackburn Hamlet, Ottawa, Ontario
Created in 2013, Just Food established the Start-Up Farm Program to promote
farming and careers in agriculture as viable options. By offering participants
access to land, shared equipment and training,
new farmers can feel supported
and enter into the industry with lower risk. We are looking for participants
interested in joining the Just Food Farm community for the 2017 growing season.
In addition to access to land, shared equipment and infrastructure such as an
irrigation system, wash station and cooler, the Start-up Farm Program includes
workshops and meetings on organic certification, crop planning, marketing and
sales, irrigation, farm safety and equipment use, post-harvest handling and
business planning. Participants can benefit from cooperating with and learning
from other farming initiatives and entrepreneurs in the Just Food network.
Limited bursaries and loans are available for selected participants. Applicants
must have some agricultural experience and are encouraged to have a specific
direction they want to pursue for their farm. Preference will be given to
Ontario-based applicants. Applications will be accepted in October 2016 for the
2017 season.

When: Thursday August 25th, 2016 and Wednesday September 21st, 2016, both at
6:30-9:00pm
