Background and Objective of the Recruitment
In line with the vision 2020, the Government of Rwanda has set in its Strategic Plan the target to increase access rate to electricity from the less than 15% to 50% by the year 2017 to serve as an engine for socio-economic development of the country. Power supply is and will be developed from all possible sources of energy in the country; from hydropower resources, Methane Gas of the Lake Kivu, Geothermal and Peat Resources etc.
It is expected that a cumulative total installed capacity of 1000 MW will be achieved by 2017 developed from the above mentioned energy sources.
The implementing agency for Energy Projects and Programs currently the Ministry of Infrastructure is facing shortage of capacitated human resources. It is in this regard that the Ministry of Infrastructure is looking for self motivated local experts, in different fields in order to occupy different posts available in the Energy Sector in order to join and complement the existing team.
TITLE: Hydrologist/Hydrology Engineer
General Duties and Responsibilities
The field of hydrology is interdisciplinary in that it includes fluid mechanics, meteorology, geology, geophysics, biology, chemistry and physics. Hydrologic engineering is a subgroup of environmental and civil engineering. A hydrology engineer will use hydrology principles to resolve problems involving operation and design of engineering projects that use or control water. They may undertake analysis of watershed runoff in order to make decisions regarding warning, operating, permitting and regulation or planning. Other typical duties may include channel analysis, erosion and sedimentation analysis, statistical analysis involving drought and flood frequency and groundwater and reservoir system analysis and modeling.

• Under the guidance of Senior Civil Engineer,
• He/she will be responsible for Preparation of watershed hydrology studies; Modeling reservoir systems; Modeling hydroelectric systems;
• Preparing reports and making presentations to relevant authorities. Ile/she will ensure hydrological flow regime data are collected, analyzed and modeled to give accurate info for the purpose of engineering design usage.
Minimum Requirements
1. A Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) in civil, hydrology, environmental or water resources engineering is essential.
2. Additional qualifications may include familiarity with GIS and Water CAD and being up-to-date in land drainage, flood hazard and river management engineering practices.
3. It will also be plus for the candidate to be quite familiar with the one or so of the following software:
• HEC-1 – watershed modeling system
• HEC-HMS – hydrologic modeling system
• HEC-RAS – models hydraulics of water flowing through channels and natural rivers
• HEC-GEORAS – river analysis system
• Two years relevant experience (hydrology) is mandatory
