Background and Objective of the Recruitment
In line with the vision 2020, the Government of Rwanda has set in its Strategic Plan the target to increase access rate to electricity from the less than 15% to 50% by the year 2017 to serve as an engine for socio-economic development of the country. Power supply is and will be developed from all possible sources of energy in the country; from hydropower resources, Methane Gas of the Lake Kivu, Geothermal and Peat Resources etc.

It is expected that a cumulative total installed capacity of 1000 MW will be achieved by 2017 developed from the above mentioned energy sources.

The implementing agency for Energy Projects and Programs currently the Min¬istry of Infrastructure is facing shortage of capacitated human resources. It is in this regard that the Ministry of Infrastructure is looking for self motivated local experts, in different fields in order to occupy different posts available in the Energy Sector in order to join and complement the existing team.

TITLE: ENGINEERING GEOLOGIST
General: Understanding and communicating the geology can be categorized into five distinct areas of generic responsibilities that relate to associated, but different, functions. These are:
• Observation and investigation of the geology in engineering projects
• Engineering geological model development
• Establishing standards and scope for the engineering geological activi¬ties
• Engineering geological information management
• Communicating the geology to engineers

Responsibilities:
• The candidate will be reporting to Senior Civil Engineer within the Hy¬dropower Division
• Studies and preparation of reports on Geological, Geophysical, seismo¬logical and construction material aspects of the hydropower projects. Co-ordination with other Governmental Agencies on relevant issues w.r.t hydropower development.

Functions:
• Studies and preparation of reports on Geological, geophysical, seismological and construction material aspects of the Projects.
• Reconnaissance of proposed sites to locate major formations, boundaries and structural details.
• Geotechnical assessment of foundation conditions, tunneling media, cut slopes etc.
• Assessment of quality construction material locally available.
• Analysis of seismic status of the relevant project.
• Assessment ‘of likely environmental changes/variations.
• Preparation of detailed geological maps after exploration by drilling and drifting as may be relevant.
• Geological mapping of excavated foundation and cut slopes along with de¬tailed logging and advice on local treatment.
• Monitoring of rock mass behavior during and after construction.
• Co ordination with other Governmental agencies.
• Professional up-gradation including recommending Training Programmes f or employees in the Division.

Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) in Geology, Engineering Geology or ;Geotechnical Engineering, Mining with 2 years experience in the relevant work environment will be essential.
