BUILDING
CARETAKER – EDMONTON, AB

The Schizophrenia
Society of Alberta (SSA) newest housing program; Iris Court provides
affordable, permanent, supportive housing to 21 individuals living with serious
mental illness and at risk of homelessness. Iris Court provides support staff
24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Services include:

24-hour supervision, 3 meals
per day and snacks, fully furnished rooms, free laundry facilities, medication
monitoring, and assistance with activities of daily living, recreational and
support opportunities and community service referrals.

Building
caretaker;

Reporting to the SSA Provincial Director of Development, the Building Caretaker
is responsible for all interior/ exterior cleaning and maintenance of the
building and the surrounding grounds. 2 full days will be committed to building
maintenance and 3 days dedicated to cleaning all common areas and other duties
as assigned.

Most
importantly, you would be willing to be flexible by pitching in when needed, work
independently and as a member of a team that supports and maintains a stable
living and home environment for tenants living with severe and persistent
mental illness
.

Hours: 8am-4pm
Monday-Friday

Rate: $19.00 per hr,
three weeks paid holidays and a comprehensive benefit package after probation
period.

KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General
    cleaning of the property including and not limited to: vacuuming, washing
    floors, walls, doors, washrooms, tables, shower rooms, emptying of trash
    bins, waste containers and recycle bins etc.
  • Oversees
    the day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of the building
  • Perform
    minor routine maintenance jobs including but not limited to; replacement
    of light bulbs/fixtures, painting and drywall repair etc.
    • Replenish
      supplies such as soaps, paper towels and toilet paper
    • Follow
      a daily and monthly maintenance and cleaning schedule
    • Manage
      and ordering an appropriate inventory of cleaning and maintenance
      supplies making sure they are stored as required in locked cupboards or
      containers
    • Helping
      tenants move in and thorough room cleaning after move out
    • Meet
      trades people and coordinate/manage renovation projects in the building
    • Monitoring
      and general maintenance of heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and
      electrical systems, and contact tradespersons for major repairs
    • May be
      required to move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies
    • Comply
      with all SSA policies, practices and quality accommodation standards
      • Ensure
        all Fire, Health and Safety standards are being met daily
      • Adheres
        to established protocols for safety, privacy and confidentiality
      • Help
        kitchen staff receive weekly food orders
      • And
        other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience
    in building and mechanical equipment use and maintenance
  • Effective
    verbal and written communication in English is a must
  • Ability
    to use hand and power tools effectively
  • Must be
    able to maintain buildings and facilities and to operate required
    equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Excellent
    time management skills; diligent and completes work in a timely manner
  • Basic
    computer skills with the ability to use e-mail effectively, program entry
    phones and Fobs
  • Ability
    to maintain daily log book
  • Honest
    and trustworthy
  • Possess
    cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Demonstrate
    flexibility and sound work ethics
  • Ability
    to deal with residents in a positive, courteous and respectful manner
  • Experience
    in performing minor maintenance an asset
  • Experience
    in the hospitality industry an asset
  • Must
    own a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
