The International Finance Corporation headquartered at Washington D.C., USA is the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group. Established in 1956, IFC’s mission is to promote private sector investments in developing countries, which will reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. IFC offers a full array of financial products and services to companies in its developing member countries through long term
loans, equity investments, guarantees and advice. The Program: The South Asia department of IFC is looking to recruit an Investment Analyst based in New Delhi. The Investment Analyst will be a part of the Financial Markets team and work closely with the Investment Officers in the Private Equity Funds team for South Asia. The Private Equity Funds team is responsible for: i) Surveying the South Asia PE funds in market and developing a pipeline of high quality private equity funds in the region that manifest the best combination of compelling investment skills and developmental impact ii) Executing the pipeline by managing a due diligence and structuring process within the context of the detailed IFC investment process iii) Managing the existing portfolio of private equity funds by actively monitoring investment performance and organizational issues iv) Facilitating and managing co-investment opportunities between the portfolio funds and the other investment departments in IFC v) Development of a public profile for IFC’s fund investment activities supported by insightful research efforts.
Duties and Accountabilities
Investment Analysts assist Investment Officers in all aspects of their work, including:
• Conducting industry and market research
• Reviewing fund documents
• Maintaining the funds databases
• Preparing financial models
• Participating in due diligence and investment negotiations
• Preparing internal investment documents
• Shepherding transactions through the IFC process
• Portfolio analytics and processing
• Special analytical projects as required
Selection Criteria
• Minimum requirement is a recent undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related specialty, typically with additional professional experience of 1-2 years ideally in a top tier consulting firm or investment bank.
• Sound numerical, analytical and conceptual skills encompassing finance and the associated areas of financial investment, portfolio management, corporate finance and economics.
• Ability to communicate ideas succinctly and confidently (verbally and in writing)
• Aptitude in basic software applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint).
• Fluency in English is essential. Skill in an additional South Asian language is optional
• A keen interest in development finance and in working in a multicultural environment as well strong interest in private equity investing.
• Ability to multi-task in a target oriented environment and produce high quality, error-free work while meeting very tight deadlines.
• Ability to problem solve, think through solutions with limited supervision and pro-actively seek counsel where needed
• Ability to travel frequently without impacting timing or quality of deliverables
