The Humber Arboretum and Centre for Urban Ecology are looking for a
passionate individual to join our team as a bil
ingual or english
speaking Nature Interpreter. The successful candidate will be
responsible for delivering curriculum connected outdoor education
workshops in English and/or French to students who visit the Humber
Arboretum’s Centre for Urban Ecology. In addition, the incumbent will
assist with the facilitation of ecologically focused community events
as well as programs connected to Scouts Canada and Girl Guides of
Canada. Must be willing to work evening and weekend shifts when
required.
Hourly Wage: $16.55 – $18.00 dependant upon experience
• Post-secondary education in Outdoor Education, Ecology, or
Environmental Education. Equivalent experience will be considered in
the absence of post-secondary education.
• Applicants must be passionate about connecting people of all ages
with the natural world.
• Applicants with French as a first or second language are preferred.
However, applicants with a French immersion background that have
commensurate experience will be considered.
• Experience in the planning and implementation of curriculum
connected, ecologically focused, outdoor education workshops in both
English and/or French is mandatory.
• Ability to identify common flora and fauna of Southern Ontario.
• Applicant must have a strong understanding of the
inner-connectedness of ecosystems and the ability to present these
relationships to students ranging from kindergarten to Grade 12 using
age appropriate terminology.
• Fun loving personality with a strong commitment to professionalism
and providing excellent customer service.
• Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish
tasks with little or no direct supervision.
• Hold a current certificate in First Aid, and CPR Level C
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, and PowerPoint.
