Background
IRC currently supports six hospitals and 40 clinics throughout Liberia in a country with poor health outcomes including approximately 1 in a 100 women dying during birth and a less than five mortality rate hovering at 15%. Description of Position
The Hospital Medical Coordinator will plan, organize and develop together with the hospital management team the medical care at the hospital in order to assure the quality of medical services, in accord with national health care policy of Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS). The Hospital Medical Coordinator will act as a counterpart of the national Hospital Director and will be an advisor to him and the entire Hospital management team and to the hospital staff who are responsible for the provision of health care at the hospital. He/she will also assist in the Hospital management team in planning of the clinical work in the hospital and the overall running of the hospital, building the capacity of the hospital management team and the hospital staff to ensure the delivery of good quality health care to the beneficiaries of the services.

Responsibilities:
 — Provide clinical supervision, coaching and training to medical staff at the hospital in close collaboration with the MOHSW Hospital Director and the County Health Team.
 — Perform emergency and elective surgeries as the need may arise
 — Provide curative care, including out-patient consultations
 — Conduct daily ward rounds.
 — Refer patients to relevant institutions in accordance with referral criteria and options.
 — Prepare monthly activity reports which include health statistics and the narrative reports and together
 — With the Hospital Director, and the data base manager put plans in place to ensure quality data is produced regularly.
 — Represent IRC in the hospital management committee and other relevant committees at the hospital and at the County level.
 — Assess the need for medicines and medical supplies and equipment in the hospital.
 — In collaboration with the Hospital Director and other MOHSW staff, the logistician and the drug store officer, ensure proper drug forecasting is done and the drugs and medical supplies are ordered according to needs in a timely manner.
 — In collaboration with the Hospital Director and the hospital management ensure that treatments are given in accordance to national standardized treatment protocols.
 — In collaboration with the hospital Director, ensure that other standard hospital practices such as universal precautions and infection prevention are implemented to minimize hospital acquired infections.
 — Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by the Lofa County Health Coordinator.

Requirements
 — Current registration/license with relevant professional body as a medical doctor/surgeon.
 — A minimum of 2 years post medical registration work experience
 — Experience in supervising, coaching and training hospital staff
 — Minimum of one-year experience working in a developing country or similar environment
 — Ability to cope with a fast-paced environment
 — Ability to work well as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team.
