improve communications skills though individualized training. The
Communications & Fundraising Specialist will take the lead on Green
Venture’s fundraising initiatives, including soliciting monthly donors
and planning special events.

This position requires a high energy, charismatic person, who is able
to excite team members about communications. Flexibility and a high
level of initiative are necessary.

Key areas of responsibility

Communications
• Plan, direct and evaluate existing communications practices
• Develop and implement communication strategies to publicize
activities, events, and programs
• Create annual communications plan
• Expand social media and website presence
• Establish and maintain relationships with media stakeholders;
increase media coverage
• Prepare or oversee preparation of press releases, brochures (using
appropriate design software), newsletters and other material
• Work closely with program staff to establish communications
objectives for each program, including main messages, measurable
targets, and associated timelines
• Assist program staff with achieving established communications objectives
• Develop and deliver training workshops for staff, including
customized tutorials
• Prepare and deliver educational and publicity programs to increase
awareness of Green Venture and EcoHouse

Fundraising & Event Planning
• Plan and coordinate all aspects of Green Venture’s 20th Anniversary
Celebration Fundraiser
• Assist in the planning and promotion of Seedy Saturday
• Assist in the planning of other events and fundraisers, as necessary
• Participate in Green Venture’s Fundraising Committee
• Create fundraising outreach materials
• Solicit new monthly donors
• Establish and lead monthly giving campaigns
• Assist with the integration of fundraising into various programs,
and encourage a culture of philanthropy

energy conservation, green infrastructure, local ecosystem

General
• Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) to prepare documents and reports
• Data entry and upkeep of the organization’s databases, ensuring a
high level of accuracy
• Reception duties (as shared by all staff)
• Work in compliance with the Health and Safety Act and regulations
• Other duties as assigned

Reports to
Executive Director

Terms of employment
• One year, full-time contract position
• Salary of $42,000 per year
• An average of 35 hours per week.
• 10 days vacation

Qualifications
• A university degree or college diploma in communications, public
relations, marketing, journalism or in a related field
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a communications or fundraising
related occupation
• Knowledge of local environmental issues
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, and design software
(Publisher, Photoshop)
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms

Assets
• Experience mentoring and training others
• Fundraising and event planning experience
• Valid “G” license accompanied by a clean driving record
