Gibson Importing is a significant
player in the importation and distribution of giftware predominantly within Australia. We
are seeking a passionate and trend-savvy Product Buyer to assist us in driving
towards our growth targets.  Being a major player in the gift
industry, our goal is to identify and at times develop new and innovative gift
products that can be supplied to our extensive multi channel customer base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and build product ranges in line with Gibson’s
    giftware direction.
  • Source new manufacturers and market segments.
  • Manage and coordinate product and range developments
    from concept to product launch.
  • Be at the forefront of current and future market
    trends.  Understand deeply the customers and markets we supply into
    and the opportunities to further enhance their experience with us.
  • Collaborate with other Buyers to enhance product
    offerings.
  • Manage inventory levels and sales and margin
    expectations.
  • Adhere to company pricing methodologies and sourcing
    policies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and maintain quality
    standards for our customers.
  • Initiating and coordinating artwork with our design
    team.
  • Manage the timing and quality of products into our
    warehouse.
  • Attend overseas factories and trade fairs, as well as
    retail visits and domestic fairs. 
  • Communicate regularly with our Sales team to gauge
    product performance and assist in developing sales strategies.

Your skills include

  • An acute sense of market trends and fashion, but
    understanding the realities of commercial product.
  • Currently in a fast paced product sourcing and
    development role with experience in importing for a wholesale or retail
    company.
  • Understanding of the logistical side of buying,
    manufacturing, shipping and costing.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with overseas
    factories, building and maintaining relationships.
  • Communicate and work effectively across all levels of
    our organisation
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills. 
  • Strong analytical and IT skills.  Superior
    attention to detail.  Self-motivated, passionate and very much a team
    player. 
  • Time and Project Management skills are impeccable
  • Tertiary qualification in a related field
  • You must be willing to put in when it is required and
    this will require time spent outside of the normal 9 to 5.
