Free The Children
seeks a dynamic and committed, Associate Director, Digital Media to join our
team. The Associate Director position seeks to use our platforms to amplify and
engage new and existing segments to reach our organizational business
objectives. The Associate Director serves to deliver measurable business
results through solutions that meet both market needs and organizational goals.
This person will work with internal stakeholders to translate our business
strategy into a content marketing strategy and detailed content roadmaps. The
Associate Director will provide leadership for the core team, and will report directly
to the Director.
The position is
based out of Free The Children’s International office in Toronto (233 Carlton
Street). A minimum three-year commitment is expected. There is a three (3)
month probationary period, upon reaching the three (3) month period, all staff
members are offered a health plan including dental and Employee Assistant
Program.

Responsibilities:
- Reports
to and takes direction from the Director of Digital Media - Work
with internal stakeholders to translate business strategy into content
marketing strategies and detailed roadmaps for all social channels - Work
with team members on digital content across social, video, web and app
properties - Oversee
development of user experience and product design - Functions
as the interface between business units and our content team to
successfully design, build and deploy new campaigns - Works
directly with the Partner Relations team to plan, develop and execute
partner social strategies - Use
market research, customer and competitor insight, user feedback and
analytics in order to optimize content performance and ensure that
decisions are based on strong data - Monitors
progress, milestones and deliverables; creates dynamic post campaign
reports - Conducts
research into target markets’ needs, preferences and expectations to
ensure a strategy that speaks in the language of the target segments - Sets
and continually manages expectations with team members and other
stakeholders - Clearly
and effectively delegates deliverables to team members and monitors
progress
Content Strategy
(45%)
- Oversee
overarching strategy of editorial content on organizational social
platforms, website and the WE365 platform - Work
closely with the Community Manager of Digital Media to develop and
implement editorial calendar that deliver on organizational priorities,
partner commitments and the integrity of user experience(s) - Oversee
to the ongoing experience and content strategy of the organizational
social channels - Identify
trends and topical events, to be presented as relevant daily - Deliver
content in a manner that retains users and grows our communities - Ensure
all content and campaigns are aligned with brand voice - Event
based work is required
Brand Representation
(35%)
- Lead
communications with our organizational partners, ensuring that their
priorities and brand voice are well represented and their expectations met
- Strategize
with partners to ensure that their content is compelling, well-timed and
well presented on the platform - Work
closely with marketing units of each brand to ensure brand alignment in
all outward facing communications - Positively
and effectively represent the WE brands through compelling content and
adherence to organizational priorities - Deliver
content with a strong, clear voice that adheres to organizational brand
guidelines
Monitoring and
Moderation (20%)
- Monitor
conversations, content and groups to ensure the highest levels of
engagement, appropriateness and safety - Alert
Director as issues and flags arise within the system, working together to
resolve issues - Measure
success of community engagement, informing strategy and content shifts
through monitoring of data and trends
Marketing and Brand:
- Oversees
the delivery and maintains a powerful, captivating platform (social, web,
app) - Oversees
the production of a platform with captivating user experience that aligns
with the brand guidelines for We365 - Lead
the creation of features and functions on the platform to develop a strong
brand voice to inspire, and motivate action - Lead
the creation of a marketing strategy that meets business objectives and
considers users’ unique needs, moving them to action within the digital
platform - Lead
the creation and maintenance of marketing content, from copy to design
Leadership and
Management
- Acts as
a member of the senior-management team within the marketing team, as well
as within the broader organization as a whole. Upholds highest level of
professionalism - Continuously
liaises with other department Associate Directors and Directors to ensure
needs are met - Continuously
liaises with Digital Media team in order to move departmental deliverables
forward - Coaches
and motivates team members, and influences them to take positive action
and accountability for their assigned work - Provides
direction, leadership, and coordination for a range of projects - Co-leads
departmental human resources functions such as hiring, evaluations and
difficult conversations with team members
Sets up departmental
processes and monitors efficiency, and project tracking
- Meets
aggressive targets and deadlines in an effective way
Requirements:
- Approximately
3 – 5 years of experience working in communications, social media, or
marketing - Experience
in and proven understanding of successes in marketing and communications - Extremely
organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with
tight deadlines - Capable
of demonstrating strong diplomatic and critical listening skills - Superior
verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate in
a clear, concise and compelling manner - Experience
with team management - Intuition
for interpersonal relationships and relationship building - Extremely
proactive with the ability to provide prompt follow through on projects - An
organized self-starter, with the ability to work well both independently
and as a team - Ability
to accept specific direction, with an outstanding work ethic - Positive,
enthusiastic, presentable and comfortable speaking in front of large
groups - Bachelor’s
degree preferred in Communications, Journalism, English or PR-related
discipline and/or relevant experience in the field
