Organization: Earthwise Society
Location: Tsawwassen, British Columbia
The Earthwise Society is a not-for-profit, charitable organization with a mandate to promote sustainability through environmental education and stewardship. For the past several years, the society has been working on the development of the Boundary Bay Earthwise Garden and Farm, a two-acre demonstration site of ecological horticultural practices connecting the community with growing food.
Reporting to the Farm Manager, the Earthwise Farm Intern will contribute to the operation of the farm and learn about aspects of small farm operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Farm Manager, carry out farm operations including:
– Planting and maintaining crops in farm fields and hoop house.
– Harvesting vegetables for our farm gate sales and community supported agriculture program.
– Preparing vegetables for sale
– Assist with plant propagation, labelling, and inventory
– Assist with integrated pest management
– Assist with farm events, including the Earthwise Markets.
– Assist with farm gate sales at the Earthwise Farm Store
– Help to maintain informational displays, greet farm and garden visitors and provide information on issues related to sustainable growing practices
– Work with volunteers and apprentices on farm and garden projects.
– Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A student currently enrolled in a college or university agricultural program or has demonstrated experience in gardening or farm work.

Compensation: 30 hours per week. $10.50/hr. Starting early May. Sixteen weeks of employment.
