Overview: We are seeking Garden Program Assistant to work with the Lead Hand in
support the community food project at the Community Food Garden (CFG) at
Woodbine Racetrack. The Gardening Assistant provides support for Evergreen’s
Community Garden Program focusing on external partners. The Gardening Assistant
will work under the direction of the Lead Gardener to implement garden and
greenhouse plans and programming.

Key Responsibilities:
• Work alongside the Lead Hand to implement garden and greenhouse plan and set
and achieve production goals
• Perform gardening duties planting and maintenance of garden beds, digging,
mulching, watering, weeding, bed preparation, watering and green house
maintenance
• Provide admin support towards creating outreach materials, program resources
and evaluation plans for community programs
• Deliver and facilitate workshops and programs with community members and the
public in urban agriculture, food growing, healthy eating and issues pertaining
to sustainable food systems (i.e. harvest festivals, garden groups, community
gardening workshops; etc.)
• Coordinate harvest and delivery of produce to community partners
• Maintain garden cleanliness, garden equipment and promote a safe community
garden
• Interest in community gardens, health, nutrition and food security

• Supervised by:Project Manager, Community Programs
• Supervises: Partner participants and community volunteers

Qualifications:
• 1-3 years’ experience in gardening, gardening methods and techniques
• Knowledge of native plants and vegetables and how to maintain healthy growth
• Experience with community-based outreach initiatives, urban agriculture,
food/native plant gardening
• Ability to lead gardening group activities and discussions with diverse
individuals
• Access to a vehicle, an asset

Working conditions:
• Outdoors in all weather conditions
• Lifting heavy objects on a regular basis
