Position Description: We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and well
organized individual to join the EcoSpark education team. The
successful candidate will help coordinate and implement EcoSpark’s
core education programs in coordination with the Education Team
throughout the Greater Toronto Area and into the Greenbelt. They will
facilitate programming, organize logistics, and aid in further
development of EcoSpark’s education programs. Specifically, they will
work on Changing Currents which is a water quality monitoring program
for students.
This is a full-time 6-month contract month period (June 23 to December
22, 2014). There is a possibility of contract extension dependent on
funding.
Position Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Facilitate experiential workshops for students engaging them in
monitoring the health of their local waterways using chemical,
physical and biological testing
• Coordinate the logistics of EcoSpark’s environmental education programs
• Preparation of benthos reference samples and kits for training
• Inventory and maintenance of monitoring equipment
• Assist in the promotion of educational programming to schools
• Provide remote support for teachers as they undertake stewardship activities
• Assist in the development and update of environmental education resources
• Assist in the delivery of teacher professional development workshops
• Ensure that student-generated data is collected, validated, and
published online
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Ontario Teacher Certification or equivalent
• University degree or college diploma in environmental studies, an
environmentally-related discipline
• Experience facilitating environmental education workshops with students
• Experience coordinating program/project logistics
• Experience with the formal education system
• Proven time management skills and the ability to manage a diverse workload
• Clear communication skills both written and verbal
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Valid driver’s license
As this position is partially funded through Canada’s Youth Employment
Strategy (YES) program, all candidates need to meet the following
requirements:
• Must be 30 years of age or under and eligible to work in Canada
• Have not previously participated in Science Horizons Youth
Internship Program or any other federal Youth Employment Strategy
program
• Must meet all the Science Horizons youth participant criteria

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ontario Benthic Biomonitoring Network (OBBN) Certification
• First Aid Certification
