Job Title: VP, Legal & Business
Affairs, Distribution
Location:
Toronto, ON, Canada

Description: We currently have an opening
for a position as VP, Legal & Business Affairs, Distribution, based at our
Toronto office. This person will be responsible for the over-all legal and
business support for the sales and distribution operations in Toronto. 

Required
Skills & Qualifications:

  • J.D./LL.B.
    is required and 10 years of legal experience in the entertainment industry
    is preferred;
  • A broad
    understanding of production, distribution, digital rights and legislation
    and policies affecting the regulatory regime of the Canadian television
    and interactive media industries;
  • Familiarity
    with negotiation of acquisition agreements with global media and broadcast
    companies and digital media platforms;
  • Excellent
    drafting, time management and organizational skills including the ability
    to coordinate multiple complex, confidential files;
  • Team
    player that is extremely positive, forward thinking and solution minded.

Position
Responsibilities:

  • Providing
    on-going business affairs and legal advice concerning all aspects of
    distribution and exploitation of entertainment productions;
  • Negotiating
    and drafting distribution agreements for acquisition of third party
    productions;
  • Negotiating
    license agreements across all media including without limitation,
    television and digital media platforms;
  • Familiarity
    in structuring, negotiating and drafting co-production agreements
    including CRTC co-ventures and treaty co-productions and advising on tax
    credit eligibility as they pertain to distribution operations;
  • Providing
    additional legal services in connection with the acquisition of content
    and the financing and production of television, digital and other content;
  • Liaising
    with other departments and offices.
