Definition of terms

Ageing: It is defined as the regression of physiological
function accompanied by advancing age.
Assessment: It is the process of gathering, analysing,
interpreting and using information about progress and achievement in order to
improve teaching and learning.

Elderly: It refers to people aged 65years and older.
Food: Any nutritious substances that people or animals eat or drink or plants
absorb in order to maintain life and growth.
Food habit: It refers to the way in which different people
select, cook, serve and eat food that are available to them.
Health: This is the complete state of physical, social, mental
and emotional wellbeing of a person not only the absence of disease or
infirmity.
Health problem: It is a state in which you are unable to function
normally and without pain.
Malnutrition: This is the condition that results from eating a
diet in which certain nutrients are lacking in excess (too high intake) or in
wrong proportion.
Nutrition: Is the intake of food, considered in relation to
the body’s dietary needs.
