To find out whether environmental degradation exists
in Afiesere

Ho: Environmental degradation does not exist in
Afiesere community.

Ha: Environmental degradation exists in Afiesere
community

Questions 1, 2 and 3 in the questionnaire are set of
related questions that represent the data for treatment of research hypothesis
I as shown in table 4.1 below.

Table 4.1 above
shows that the total respondents that responded “Yes” to the set of related
questions are 650 while those that responded “No” is equal to 100. The
calculated chi-square (X2) value is 35.219 while table value of X2
at 2df is 5.991.

Therefore, applying decision rule, since X2
calculated 15.93 is greater than X2 tabulated 0.05 = 5.991, it shows
that environmental degradation exists in Afiesere (Details in Appendix II).

Objective II

To asses causes of environmental degradation in
Afiesere

Research
Hypothesis II

Ho: There are no causes of environmental degradation
in Afiesere community.

Ha: There are causes of environmental degradation in
Afiesere community.

Questions 4, 5 and 6 in the questionnaire are set of
related questions that represent the data for treatment of research hypothesis
II as shown in table 4.2 below.

shows that the total respondents that responded “Yes” to the set of related
questions are 620 while those that responded “No” is equal to 130. The
calculated chi-square (X2) value is 24.22 while table value of X2
at 2df is 5.991.

Therefore, applying decision rule, since X2
calculated 24.22 is greater than X2 tabulated 0.05 = 5.991, the
researcher concluded that there are causes of environmental degradation in
Afiesere community (Details in Appendix III).

Objective III

To determine the effects of environmental degradation
on the ecosystem

Research Hypothesis III

Ho: Environmental degradation does not have effects on
the ecosystem

Ha: Environmental degradation has effects on the
ecosystem

Questions 7, 8 and 9 in the questionnaire are set of
related questions that represent the data for treatment of research hypothesis
Ill as shown in table 4.3 below.

responded “No” is equal to 115. The calculated chi-square (X2) value
is 24.0 while table value of X2 at 2df is 5.991.

Therefore, applying decision rule, since X2
calculated 56.01 is greater than X2 tabulated 0.05 = 5.991, the
researcher concluded that environmental degradation has effect on the ecosystem
(Details in Appendix IV).

Objective IV

To find out possible solutions to environmental
degradation in Afiesere

Research Hypothesis IV

Ho: There are no possible solutions to environmental
degradation in Afiesere community.

Ha: There are possible solutions to environmental
degradation in Afiesere community.

Questions 10, 11 and 12 in the questionnaire are set
of related questions that represent the data for treatment of research
hypothesis IV as shown in table 4.4 below

Therefore, applying decision rule, since X2
calculated 16.8 is greater than X2 tabulated 0.05 = 5.991, the
researcher concluded that there are possible solution to environmental
degradation in Afiesere (Details in Appendix V).
