City of Edmonton Environmental Program Specialist Job Vacancy in Edmonton, Alberta

This is a Temporary, Part time position for approximately 6 months and which may continue up to 11 months

As the Environmental Program Specialist, here is how you will make a difference:
• Set up displays and promote Waste Management initiatives at trade shows, multifamily complexes, malls, festivals and other public special events
• Provide educational workshops to students and the public on Waste Management initiatives and programs
• Distribute brochures and other written information
• Conduct facility tours
• Promote awareness and answer inquiries from the public about Waste Management programs
• Occasionally act as Michael Recycle, Branch Mascot, at Waste Management events, public events and venues
• Deliver materials to various locations across the city several times per week

Qualifications:
• Completion of Grade 12
• Experience delivering engaging presentations, providing information and answering inquiries
• Experience providing excellent customer service in person and over the phone
• Experience working with children and leading tour groups is an asset
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Must be personable, approachable, and professional
• Demonstrated presentation skills and comfortable speaking to small groups
• Ability to act the part of the mascot
• Knowledge of waste management initiatives in Edmonton
• Knowledge of the City layout and ability to efficiently navigate to different sites

Note:
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg. (50 lbs.)
• A class 5 Driver’s Licence or operators licensing equivalent recognized by the Operator Licensing and Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta. Reg. 320/2002 and the ability to attain a City of Edmonton Driving Permit is required
• An original Police Information Check or Certified Criminal Record Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position. The new hire will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Services or a local RCMP detachment. Please note, this may take up to 3 weeks to process

Hours of Work: up to 33.75 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program

Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 034, $15.480 – $19.164 (Hourly), $1,044.90 – $1,293.57 (Bi-Weekly). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton. This Union contract is currently under negotiation.
