Note: This position is supported by Canada Summer Jobs funding,
therefore applicants must be 30 years of age or under, currently
attending school full-time and returning to school full-time in the
fall.
Job Description: The position will work closely with a weekly
community garden program as well as help maintain the garden. They
will also help support other health promotion programming within the
health centre; for example the Healthy Nail Salon Project that focuses
on occupational health risks and nail salon workers.
Responsibilities:
• Support gardening program (set up, planning, running activities, etc.)
• Assist in developing garden activities and planning field trips
• Maintenance and care of community garden
• Outreach and administrative support for a project advocating for
healthier working conditions in nail salons
• Assist in other health promotion activities as required
Qualifications:
• Experience working in gardens (through paid employment or volunteer work)
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Experience in program planning and delivery
• Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills are an asset
• Experience working with people who are marginalized including people
who are homeless, people who use substances, people with mental health
issues, and new immigrants.
• Knowledge of community resources, harm reduction and additional
languages are assets
• Knowledge of food handling is an asset
Salary: $16.00 an hour
Hours: 30 hours a week for July and August
