Now Recruiting Program Supervisors!
Catching the Spirit is back for its 16th season and is accepting applications
for Program Supervisors (Mentorvisors) to facilitate programs at various Metro
Vancouver Regional parks.
This unique program is dedicated to developing leadership and social
responsibility in youth through environmental stewardship, environmental
awareness, outdoor recreation and youth ownership. It promotes respect,
creativity, collaboration, and outdoor fun while connecting youth to their
environment, their community and to each other.
Catching the Spirit is now accepting applications for Program Supervisors
(Mentorvisors) and encourages all youth (or persons with a youthful spirit) age
19 and older to apply. The position is offered May through August and
remuneration is up to $6,500 depending upon your time commitment. CTS
encourages youth of Aboriginal or Métis descent or members of ethno-cultural
minority communities to apply

Do you like working with youth? Are you….
• Passionate about the environment?
• Interested in honing your mentorship skills by leading and mentoring a
diverse group of youth and youth Peer Leaders?
• Wanting to gain additional leadership experience and to work in a leadership
capacity?
• Comfortable in facilitating outdoor environmental education, recreation and
camping programs and ready to learn and share new outdoor skills with youth?
• Curious about stewardship and ready to learn about and lead local stewardship
initiatives?
• Eager to explore the connections between sustainability, the environment and
social responsibility?
• Well-organized and a self-starter who likes to take initiative and contribute
to creating a strong collaborative leadership team?
• Reliabile, professional, and able to work independently?
• Certified in Basic First Aid & CPR (training will be provided for those
without)?
• Licensed with a valid class 5 driver’s license & access to a vehicle
(preferred)?
• Returning full-time student (preferred)?
• 19 years of age or older?
If you answered ‘yes’ to all the questions above, then you need to read on. We
have a great opportunity for you to:
• Supervise and mentor a great leadership team of youth Peer Leaders
• Assist with planning, development & delivery of Leadership Team training
• Mentor and supervise youth aged 12 to 18 in weekend overnight (2 nights) camp
programs
• Mentor and supervise youth aged 12 to 18 in weekend overnight (2 nights) camp
programs and in daytime Park Ranger programs
• Supervise and assist youth in a range of stewardship programs and projects.
• Take the lead in camp preparation which includes program planning and
coordination as well as camp gear and food shopping
• Learn and provide guidance in the use of technology such as GPS and
multi-media for monitoring and communication activities (training to be
provided)
• Assist with program promotion and attend events representing Catching the
Spirit program, including the year end Volunteer Appreciation Barbeque
• Write work summaries throughout the employment period and an
end-of-season-report
• Assist in tracking volunteer hours and writing reference letters for Peer
Leaders
• Contribute to making 2016 the best season ever!
This position is offered May through August and requires that you are available
to work flexible hours, including weekdays and weekends.
May to end of June (12-15 hr/wk + training)
• Program planning, preparation, training and promotion
• Weekend work required, including delivery of youth leadership workshops
July & August (30 hours/week):
• On the ground delivery of overnight camp and daytime programs, including
associated planning and preparation
Remuneration: Up to $6500 depending on your time commitment to the program
