by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), CDP project
is implemented by Land O’Lakes International Development and is designed to
increase access to self-reliant cooperative enterprises that meet the needs of
their members and contribute to improved quality of life for members.Land
O’Lakes is testing the development hypothesis that professionalizing apex
bodies and cooperative support institutions can have a positive impact on both
primary societies and the economic and social well-being of primary society
farmer owners. Land O’Lakes is testing this hypothesis in Rwanda by working in
three districts (Nyabihu, Bugesera and Gicumbi). In Bugesera district,
the project is working directly with institutions that support maize farmers
including cooperative federation, unions and primary societies. In the other
two districts, the project is working directly with institutions that support
dairy farmers including federations, unions and primary cooperatives.

the activities in support to the cooperatives, is the implementation of
innovative technical solutions that will spur higher levels of profitability
that will stabilize or increase farmer prices and/or reduce cost of production
at the farmer level thus increasing farmer income and improving farmer
engagement. Current participating producer organizations include:

overall objective of this assignment is to assist CDP participating

cooperatives’ performance assessment reports in order to

educational material and use them to deliver tailored trainings to
members/leaders of the cooperatives to address gaps. - Provide
on an on-going basis business development/management advisorycoaching in
key areas identified during initial capacity needs assessment and deliver
hands-on demonstration of the specific recommendations to the Cooperatives - Encourage
and make recommendations to cooperatives around good governance, good
management practices, accountability, transparency and gender inclusion in
cooperatives. - Facilitate
and or recommend study tours of cooperative representatives.

The
desired consultant is expected to have the following skills and qualifications:

- Educational
Background: Advanced degree in business, agriculture, agribusiness,
agricultural economics or another related field with practical experience
working with cooperatives. - At
least 5 years of technical field experience working with cooperatives and
or small growing businesses in emerging markets. - Practical
experience in providing capacity building through formal trainings and or
coaching to large groups of cooperatives representatives - Skills
in developing training modules/manuals is an added advantage - Good
report writing and presentation skills. - Knowledge
of the Rwandan agricultural sector, cooperatives experience is required - Knowledge
of the dairy and Maize sector in Rwanda would be a considerable advantage. - Country
experience/Fluent in Kinyarwanda.
