The role
We are seeking an experienced
Design Manager with people management and problem-solving skills, who can
deliver innovative and efficient design solutions.
Reporting to the Manager, WA the
Design Manager also liaises with National and Senior Managers, the New Business
team, external design consultants, and clients. This role will be based in our
Western Australian office, but will also involve travel to project sites as
required.
The successful applicant will be
responsible for:
- Managing and supervising external design consultants.
- Developing designs to budget at tender and post-award of
contract. - Ensuring all design activities conform to company and
industry standards and comply with relevant laws and regulations. - Ensuring that suitable and efficient construction
methods, together with appropriate plant selection and temporary works
solutions, are available. - Identifying safety and environmental hazards that may
arise during the project’s design phase. - Ensuring the project meets time schedules, budgets,
performance and reporting criteria. - Assisting with business development initiatives and
client liaison as required. - Coordinating the information flow between design and
construction teams.
Selection criteria
As the successful
applicant, you have a minimum of ten years of design management experience,
preferably with three to five years of contracting experience in the local
commercial construction industry.
You possess a relevant tertiary
qualification, ideally in Architecture.
You have experience delivering
projects across a range of sectors and delivery models and demonstrated success
in delivering to design, costing, estimating and planning targets.
You are well-versed in and
experienced in the requirement of the retail sector.
You are competent in your
understanding and application of Australian and International codes and
standards and risk and contingency assessment.

You work self-sufficiently,
requiring minimal supervision, with a focus on producing pragmatic, technically
sound results.
You are competent in the use of
the MS Office suite, Primavera, and AutoCad.
You possess strong oral and
written presentation skills and can effectively lead, organise and motivate
others.
You have a sound understanding
of, and are committed to promoting, health, safety and environmental
imperatives and procedures.
Your strong leadership and
communication skills translate into the achievement of performance objectives
and measurement targets.
You demonstrate flexibility and
resilience in dealing with complex technical issues, seek innovative
approaches, and use sound problem-solving methodology.
