The foundation was established to commemorate the life and work of the late Barbara Wood MBE, the South Pacific Area Vice-President of the Associated Country Women of the World, from 1975-77. Mrs Wood, who died tragically in the Mt Erebus air disaster, was also Deputy World President of the same organisation between 1977-1979.
Purpose of award
The Foundation offers assistance to provide training opportunities for students in NZ and the Pacific Islands in home-making, leadership, education and all aspects of rural development and community work.
Selection criteria
The scholarships are available to tertiary students who were born in the South Pacific region. Students wishing to study in New Zealand or anywhere in the South Pacific are eligible for funds..
Number of awards offered
Number of grants given varies with funds available.
Value
Scholarships vary from $500 to $1,000 a year depending on the need and cost of course undertaken.
Tenure of award
Scholarships are awarded for a year but can be reapplied for.

How do students apply?
Information and application forms are available from our website. The official application form must be used and accompanied by:
a) An outline of the project for which financial support is required and the benefits to be derived therefrom. b) A full budget for the total cost of the course. c) The amount of financial contribution which the applicant is prepared to make, and any other financial assistance available. d) A current character reference from a responsible citizen.

Applications will be processed in Feburary/March and successful applicants notified thereafter.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Candidates must submit an interim report outlining progress made and a full report on the completion of the course.
