The successful candidate will design, develop and
maintain BPR applications and databases.He/she is responsible for the
performance, integrity, security, backup and tuning of existing and new
applications and databases. He/she is involved in the conception, development,
customization and administration of applications and databases as well as in
their troubleshooting so as to ensure high systems availability. Specifically
the candidate will:
  • Design and implement new features for different
    application systems, and across different sub-systems of the core banking
    system
  • Automate routine tasks across different systems,
    mainly the core banking system, upon request from system users
  • Implement requests for change from systems users
  • Develop and customize tools for data extractions,
    system maintenance and monitoring
  • Enhance, customize and maintain existing
    applications and databases
  • Test, install and customize new software
    applications, patches and updates
  • Test and troubleshoot in-house as well as
    outsourced software applications, add-ons or customizations
  • Assist with planning, testing and implementation
    of software upgrades, as required to remain up-to-date and obtain
    “best functionality“ for the organisation
  • Map out the conceptual design for planned
    applications and databases, and participate in the definition of software
    requirement specifications
  • Participate in plans for scaling and enhancing
    new and existing application and database systems and document proposed
    solutions
  • Administration of the application systems:
    control and monitor users’ access permissions and privileges
  • Ensure high availability and performance of the
    bank’s systems, especially of the core banking system, by monitoring
    performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end
    users
  • Proactively monitor the bank’s application
    systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime
  • Work hand in hand with system administrators to
    ensure that hardware resources allocated to the applications and databases
    are sufficient for high resilience and performance
  • Communicate regularly with other technical,
    applications and operational staff to ensure application integrity and
    security
  • Refine the logical design so that it can be
    translated into a specific data model and the physical design to meet
    system storage requirements
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are
    functioning correctly
  • Maintain data standards, including adherence to
    the DPA (Data Protection Act)
  • Write documentation, including data standards,
    procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
  • Research and evaluate technology trends to
    support business requirements
  • Work to tight deadlines and when necessary, long
    hours and to be available for call-out on evenings and weekends.
             
Qualifications experiences and attributes
  • Bachelors’ degree in Information technology or
    related field
  • Experience of at least two years in software
    development in the technology industry, with proven development skills in
    Java, Visual Basic, C++ or other high-level programming languages
  • Experience in test-driven development and
    knowledge of version control systems such as CVS and SVN
  • Advanced knowledge of relational database
    management systems (Oracle, MS SQL Server and MySQL); knowledge of
    multi-value database management systems such as jBase is an added
    advantage
  • Sufficient experience in managing large
    application systems, preferably business-oriented and core banking
    systems. Knowledge of T24 is an added advantage
  • Advanced skills in *NIX-like systems such as IBM
    AIX, HP UX, RedHat or other Linux flavors
  • Familiarity with computer operating systems and
    database technologies (design, software and structure) is essential
  • Meticulous and logical in his/her work and
    capable of prioritising tasks. Good problem solving, analytical,
    administrative, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are
    also required
  • Ability and willingness to take on challenging
    tasks and to adapt quickly to new technologies
