Attitude of pregnant women towards the acceptance of caesarean section in Central Hospital Sapele

ABSTRACT
The research was on attitude of pregnant home towards acceptance of
caesarean section in Central hospital Sapele Delta State. The objective of the study
was to determine attitude towards acceptance of caesarean section and also to
find out factors that affect its acceptance e.g. educational, cultural and
cost, among pregnant women attending ante-natal clinic in Central Hospital
Sapele. The target

population was about 500 but 100 respondent were used in
obtaining the information needed. A structured questionnaire containing items
of demographic data, delivery history, knowledge and attitude towards caesarean
section was made and distributed among the women with 100% return rate. The
questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive method of data analysis i.e.
with use of table percentage and figures. It was found that the women know
about caesarean section but the extent of knowledge could not be ascertained.
Also they were not willing to accept caesarean section as a method of delivery.
The analysis showed that low educational level and cultural background was
found to be associated with non-acceptance of the method of delivery. The
analysis also showed that cost does not affect its acceptance in the hospital.
In conclusion, it can be said that pregnant women attending ante-natal clinic
in Central Hospital Sapele still have negative attitude towards caesarean
section as a method of delivery, so there is a need for awareness programme to
increase women understanding and perception of caesarean section as a method of
delivery where there is need.
