Employer: The Algoma Highlands Conservancy (AHC) is a bi-national
not-for-profit organization with a mission to conserve and protect the
unique ecological and recreational values within the Algoma region.
Following the construction of our remote, waterfront, back-country
cabin, we are looking for a dynamic individual to help us successfully
start-up and achieve the full potential of our ecotourism business.
Who is Eligible? Unemployed or underemployed youth (under the age of
30) who have gradua
ted with a degree or diploma from a post secondary
institution within the last three years, are legally entitled to work
in Canada, and have not been previously employed under a FedNor Youth
Internship funding agreement, or other federal or provincial
internship with pay for a period of six (6) months or more.
Job Description: The Intern will greatly enhance the productivity,
competitiveness and business management capacity of the AHC. The
position will be dedicated to developing and implementing an effective
business plan and marketing strategy for our ecotourism business. The
Intern will also assist in the creation and implementation of a
reservation database and a financial record-keeping system. The Intern
may also be tasked with other essential promotional and/or logistical
activities as necessary for the successful launch of the new business
venture.
Job Qualifications: Post Secondary Degree or diploma in or related to
Business, Business Management, Marketing, or Entrepreneurship.
Key Skills and Attributes Required for this Position :
A. Specific degree-related skills including: sales, promotion,
business planning, financial management, hospitality
B. Excellent communications (both oral and written)
C. Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
D. Very high level of computer literacy (particularly MS word, MS
Excel, MS Power Point, MS Access and/or Quickbooks)
E. Office administration skills or experience
F. Excellent interpersonal skills and professional approach
G. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Wage: $15/hour, 40 hours/week.
Duration: 1 year contract with possible extension pending additional
funding and job performance evaluation.
Location: Approximately 20 minutes North of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
at Stokely Creek Lodge and the AHC’s adjacent 3000 acre conservation
forest. Office space provided.
