Communications plan and coordination provided by Head of Media and
Communications, Aegis Trust based in UK.

General Description:
This appointment has a specific focus on Media and Communications support to
both the 20th Commemoration of the genocide and youth activities. The role
contributes to a wider communications platform for the Aegis Trust in Rwanda
during an exceptionally busy and high profile period. The appointment requires
a person with excellent writing skills and a news sense informed by strong awareness
of the Rwandan context and a track record of working well with others across
multiple organisations to achieve awareness and response on issues that matter.
The role will be one that provides the opportunity for creative thinking and
will be both demanding and have time pressure. The role involves working with
staff across all departments at Aegis in Rwanda; including working with media
relations personnel, journalists and the public, especially at the Kigali
Genocide Memorial.
Key Responsibilities
In line with the
Aegis Trust Media and Communications Plan:
• Draft regular reports to update partners on the evolution of Aegis activities
including progress of 20th commemoration activities and updates;
• Deliver media and communications outputs in Rwanda and ensure consistency of
messaging;
• Delivering the media and communications requirements for Aegis Trust’s
involvement in the 20th commemoration of the genocide. This will involve
liaison with the majority of significant stakeholders/groups who are engaged in
marking the commemoration in Rwanda. It will also involve creation and
management of new online content relating to the commemoration;
• Providing media and communications support to the youth programme including
where the programme links to the 20th Commemoration activities but also
separate donor funded youth activities;
• Assist with preparation and implementation of Aegis Trust Film Development in
producing educational resources;
• Provide regular content (texts, pictures, and video) for Aegis’ media and
social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube);
• Take part in the development of an interactive online hub for youth
activities linked to the 20th commemoration;
• Together with other media and communication assets, provide support to VVIP
visits, programme/project launches, special events etc. Draft media releases
and coordinate media activity around such visits and events;
• Monitor the media and analyse the outcomes of communication strategy.
Knowledge
and Experience

• Must have at least two years experience in media and communications, ideally
in a comparable role.
• Must have excellent written and fluent spoken Kinyarwanda, English. French
also an advantage.
• Must be an excellent communicator, capable of working effectively with minimal
supervision; good team-player, able to work under pressure and respect
deadlines.
• Must be culturally aware and sensitive to the needs and challenges facing
different audiences to whom the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the 20th
commemoration activities are relevant.
• Ability to work in consultative and collaborative manner.
