ABSTRACT
Human Immune Deficiency Virus/Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a deadly disease caused by a
retrovirus that destroys the human immune system, making the body impossible to
fight against diseases. HIV can be transmitted through infected blood, semen or
vaginal secretions and also through unprotected sexual intercourse with an
infected partner, from infected mother to child during pregnancy, labour or
delivery and breastfeeding, intravenous drug users (IDU), accidental sharp
needle injuries in the sharing of non-sterile razor during traditional
circumcision, hair cut and tattoo, etc. HIV/AIDS has serious effects in all
human being irrespective of sex, age, political benefits, socio-economic level,
colour and others. In fact within a few decades, HIV/AIDS will sweep round the
world in a massive wave of misery and death. Everyday more people are being
infected by the virus. Men and women as well as parents or future parents have
important roles to play including the traders and students need to be aware and
have knowledge about AIDS and its negative consequences because their love care
and support will be needed as more and more people get or become HIV/AIDS
victims.
