Swiss resource centre and consultancy group, working internationally in
development co-operation, and specializing in technical, social, institutional
and economic aspects of infrastructure and environmental management, water
supply and sanitation, solid waste management, sustainable
building and
settlement development as well as mobility and transport. Our clients include
bilateral and multilateral donors and development agencies. Our partners are a
wide variety of institutions and government and non-government organizations in
Africa, Asia, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe as well as the CIS.
For the
implementation of a program promoting climate responsive building material
production and off-farm employment in the Great Lakes Region, we are seeking
experienced professionals from the Great Lakes Region (Rwanda or Burundi), to
fill the position of:
SENIOR
MECHANICAL OR CIVIL ENGINEER
SENIOR
GEOGRAPHER / GIS ENGINEER
SENIOR
ECONOMIST/ SOCIO-ECONOMIST
General Task
- Planning,
guiding and supervising the implementation of field activities in the
Rwandan Western Province and the Province Ngozi in Burundi as mobile
advisor supporting the field office teams - Supporting
the Program Coordination Office in Kigali in acquiring and documenting
relevant information and expertise
The responsibilities
of the positions include:
- Providing
technical guidance to field technicians and to selected external
stakeholders from the private and the public sector (national and local
administrations and vocational training centers) - Supporting
the work of local and international experts - Ensuring
the quality of the fieldwork in cooperation with the field office team
leaders - Reporting
to the team leader at field office and at coordination office level - Punctual
expert support to other field office in Rwanda, resp. Burundi - Assessing
the building material sector, relevant policies and public and private
services in South Kivu Province in the DRC.
Beginning of
the assignment: January/February 2013
General
qualifications required:
The successful
applicants will have at least 7 years of working experiences
- Experiences
in technical planning, guiding and supervision of a local technicians - Good
knowledge of procedures and working practices of international development
agencies; - Ability
to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team; - Proven
ability to plan and work to deadlines; - Good
written and oral communication and presentation skills; - Fluent
in written and spoken French, English, Kinyarwanda and working knowledge
of Swahili
Specific
qualifications required:
Senior
Mechanical or Civil Engineer
- Bachelor
or Masters level qualification in mechanical or civil engineering - 10
years working experience - Excellent
knowledge on building material production and respective manufacturing
technologies - Good
knowhow on raw materials for building material production (clays, sand,
fuels) - Good
understanding of building material production related mechanics, material-
and workflow - General
understanding of combustion processes and related chemistry - Experiences
in leading applied research activities - Experiences
in manual writing e.g. for vocational training centers
Senior
Environmental Geographer or GIS engineer
- Bachelor
or Masters level qualification in environmental or geographic sciences or
GIS engineering - Good
mapping and GIS skills - 5 years
working experience - Good
knowhow on geographic data management in governmental institutions - Good
knowledge of geographic data infrastructure and decision-making aids used
in governmental administration - Land/
environment management experience is an asset
Senior
Economist/ Socio-Economist
- Bachelor
or Masters level qualification in economics or socio-economic sciences - 10
years working experience - Good
knowledge of the rural economics in the Great Lakes Region - Good
market and value chain analyzing and value chain development skills - Experiences
in rural livelihood development in the off farm sector, namely for rural
labor - Experiences
in gender specific livelihood development - Experiences
in establishing bankable business plans for rural small and medium scale
enterprises - Knowledge
on business risk analyzing methods of banks and credit institutes. - Experiences
in the promoting income opportunities of women (female economists are
particularly encouraged to apply for this post)
