Overview:
Founded in 2002, by President William J. Clinton, the Clinton Health Access
Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening
integrated health systems around the world and expanding access to care and
treatment for HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other illnesses. Based on the premise that
business oriented strategy can facilitate solutions to global health
challenges, CHAI acts as a catalyst to mobilize new resources and optimize the
impact of these resources to save lives, via improved organization of commodity
markets and more effective local management. By working in association with
governments and other NGO partners, CHAI is focused on large scale impact and,
to date, CHAI has secured lower pricing agreements for treatment options in
more than 70 countries. In addition, CHAI’s teams are working side-by-side with
over 30 governments to tackle many of the largest barriers to effective
treatment and care.

Summary of Position:
The CHAI Rwanda program is partnering with the Government of Rwanda in an
effort to reduce and prevent chronic malnutrition and the impact of severe
acute malnutrition. The cross-sector approach requires that the Nutrition Team
develops and executes a strategy to acquire agricultural inputs from
smallholder farmers by mutually beneficial means. Thus CHAI Rwanda is seeking
an Agriculture Strategy Senior Analyst to develop a comprehensive understanding
of the agricultural economics in Rwanda and of the supply chain of selected
agricultural products. Building on this understanding, the analyst will produce
business cases to guide key decisions concerning the organization of
smallholder farmers and supply chains relevant to the program. Lastly, the
analyst will develop implementation plans based on the business plans.

The role will involve field-based meetings with agriculture sector stakeholders
and meetings with central and local government officials. Candidates must
therefore exhibit outstanding communications skills and cultural sensitivity
while driving her/his work stream forward under tight deadlines. The candidates
must be comfortable working independently and have a deep personal commitment
to producing the highest quality results. CHAI places great value on relevant

Responsibilities:
• Become the CHAI Rwanda Nutrition Team topical expert on Rwandan agriculture
economics, smallholder supply chain, and solutions for challenges faced in both
areas.
• Develop the Nutrition Program’s agricultural strategy based on evidence
gathered through extensive field research
• Build business cases and corresponding implementation plans to aggregate and
to acquire crops from smallholder farmers by local food processing companies to
use as the base for the production of nutritious food products.

Qualifications:
• Masters of Science in agricultural or supply chain, or a Masters of Business
Administration
• 5 years minimum experience in one or more of the following fields:
agriculture, supply chain, consulting, or business
• Ability to develop quantitative business models.
• Excellent organizational, planning and problem solving skills
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information
concisely, and prepare short reports or presentations;
• Fluency in English
• French and/or Kinyarwanda fluency a plus;
• Ability to independently manage work stream and deliverables within a
high-pressure environment
• Exceptional diplomatic and interpersonal skills
