Global Health Corps
Global Health Corps (GHC) is a leadership
development organization focused on building the next generation of diverse,
disruptive global health leaders. Founded in 2009, we competitively recruit
talented professionals (ages 21-30) from a range of sectors and backgrounds and
place them in high-impact roles within partner organizations — including
Clinton Health Access Initiative, Partners in Health, Planned Parenthood
Global, and G
overnment Ministries in Zambia, Rwanda, and Uganda — working on
the front lines of health equity in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the US, and Zambia.
GHC is seeking
fellows from a wide range of backgrounds, geographies, and expertise. Through a
one-year paid fellowship program, fellows provide the expertise and leadership
potential needed to fill capacity gaps in global health.
About
Placement Organization
Founded in 2002, by
President William J. Clinton, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a
global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems
around the world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS,
Tuberculosis, Malaria and other illnesses. Based on the premise that business
oriented strategy can facilitate solutions to global health challenges, CHAI
acts as a catalyst to mobilize new resources and optimize the impact of these
resources to save lives, via improved organization of commodity markets and
more effective local management. By working in association with governments and
other NGO partners, CHAI is focused on large-scale impact and, to date, CHAI
has secured lower pricing agreements for treatment options in more than 70
countries. In addition, CHAI’s teams are working side-by-side with over 30
governments to tackle many of the largest obstacles to effective treatment and
care. Given the current global funding landscape, the Health Financing team is
focused on providing technical support to governments in overcoming financing
barriers to achieve universal access to health services.
Position
Overview
The Health Financing
Analyst will be based in Kigali and will work closely with CHAI colleagues on a
range of health financing initiatives to improve efficient utilization of
financial resources, to mobilize additional resources for health, and to
support the development of long-term strategies and policies to ensure
sustainable financing for the health sector. Fellows will be assigned to
specific projects based upon their potential for impact.
The ideal candidate
must have advanced competencies in conducting health systems/quantitative
analysis, demonstrate excellent communications skills and display cultural
sensitivity. S/he must be able to manage multiple tasks and drive multiple work
plans forward. S/he must exhibit a passion for results and commitment to

Responsibilities
- Developing
quantitative models to understand resource needs of key health
interventions at national and facility levels and to mobilize additional
resources for the health sector and distribute them equitably, effectively
and efficiently - Providing
analytical support for the design and implementation of various health
reforms, including health insurance, decentralization, hospital reform and
health funds - Supporting
the design and implementation of long-term financial sustainability plans - Supporting
the development of investment cases for disease programs and health
systems areas - Performing
any other duties assigned by the Senior Associate or Program Manager
Note: These
responsibilities are examples of the types of work Analysts are asked to
support. This is not an exhaustive list of potential responsibilities. Health
Financial Analyst roles vary and draw on the initiative of the individual to
shape work plans.
Required
Skills and Experience
- Minimum
of two years of professional experience in a demanding, results-oriented
environment - Highly
motivated and entrepreneurial, with outstanding problem-solving skills and
analytical capabilities - Demonstrated
experience building and analyzing quantitative models to inform decision-making,
including experience developing or evaluating financial models - Strong
diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and ability to build strong
professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging,
multicultural environment - Exceptional
organizational and communication skills, including the ability to prepare
compelling presentations and to communicate complex ideas clearly and
effectively - Demonstrated
ability to multi-task, be effective in high-pressure situations and adapt
to fast-paced and changing environments with a strong commitment to
excellence - Strategically
minded, able to think creatively around long-term program objectives and
the detailed steps necessary to achieve these goals - Ability
to manage ambiguity, work independently on complex projects, and deliver
results in a timely manner - Advanced
technical proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint (analytical skills and
proficiency levels will be tested during recruiting process)
Preferred
Skills and Experience
- Professional
experience in public sector policy/planning, health policy, public sector
finance, banking, management consulting, or other relevant private and
public sector experience - Experience
working on health care financing, particularly in developing countries - Familiarity
with a broad range of key global health issues including health systems
challenges in developing countries - Experience
working in Africa, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa - Proficiency
in French
Fellowship
Logistics
During the
fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:
- A
living stipend of $650/month - Housing
and utilities - Health
insurance - A
professional development grant of $600 - An
award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year - Travel
costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats
*Note: The living
stipend and the completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as
determined by the placement organization.
Living and
Working in Rwanda:
Fellows are provided with housing and utilities during the fellowship year.
Housing arrangements vary based on the placement organization and location
within the country. Fellows placed at CHAI will be provided temporary housing
in Kigali, an urban center in Rwanda, for the first month during which time
fellows will select permanent housing for the rest of the year. All housing
costs are covered.
