Communication network
There
are five components/ elements of data communication. These are essential things
that must be available before there can be communication between two or more

may convert data from Ana-log to digital signal and vice- versa or control the

Data Communication Channels: these are pathways over which data are transmitted
and received in a network communication channel typically use combinations of
media to get the job done. Media such as copper wires, coaxial cables, fibre
optic cables, microwaves system and communication satellite systems can be used
as communication links in network.

computers, terminals and other computerized devices within a limited physical
area. Such as an office buildings and other working sites. They are connected
in short distances.

Wide Area Network (WAN): is a communication network covering a large
geographical area. WAN can span cities, countries or the world with
telecommunication link i.e. they allow one to transmit and receive information
across, cities, regions, countries or the world. In essence, metropolitan
network can be included in wide area network.
