Norplant (implant)

What is implant (norplant)?
At the name implies, norplant is a set of small soft plastic capsules filled with hormone and in
inserted just under the skin of a woman arm to prevent pregnancy.

How to achieve it
The capsule release slowly hormone that prevent
pregnancy when place under skin and it also prevents (ova) egg from being
released every month. More benefit of nor-plant is that it thickens the
cervical mucus, which makes it difficult for the sperm to reach the egg.
Nor-plant can pervert a woman for getting pregnant for up to 5 years because it
suppresses the lining of the womb.

Norplant is 99% safe

When not to use norplant
When:
Ø 
The woman may be pregnant
Ø 
The woman liver disease or jaundice

The woman has heart disease

The woman has high blood pressure

Weights 70kg or more

The woman smokes and drinks alcohol
How to use norplant
i.           
Immediately after abortion, 6 weeks after
childbirth or 7 days following the unset of pregnancy, norplant, can be
inserted, by a trained service provider.
ii.           
The service provider makes an incision on the
inside of a woman’s upper arm and inserts the capsule of nonplant through the
incision.
iii.           
The capsule should be in a straight line or V
shape at the sport where it is inserted.
iv.           
The incision should be kept clean like any other
skin breakage until I heals
v.           
The woman will always visit the clinic for
regular check-up
vi.           
If the woman wants to become pregnant again
norplant will be remove by the same trained service provider.
vii.           
Norplant can only last for 3 – 5 years and new
capsule can be inserted
Possible side effect is same as other method of family planning
