ABSTRACT
This project
focused on assessment of environmental degradation and its health implication
on the inhabitants of Afiesere Community. Four specific objectives were drawn
for this study which are: to find out the causes of environmental degradation
in Afiesere, to assess the level of awareness of the people of Afiesere on the
cause of environmental degradation, to assess the people on the health impact
of environmental degradation on the workers, community members and the
ecosystem at large, and to assess the people on common measures of mitigating the
impact of the environment degradation. The researcher adopted the descriptive
survey method for the study while the simple and stratified random sampling
techniques were used to obtain a sample size of 250 respondents out of the
estimated population of 2734. Data were collected using the structured
questionnaire while the frequency distribution table and chi-square (x2)
statistical method were used to analyse the data collected. The results
obtained revealed that there are causes of environmental degradation in
Afiesere and has effects on the ecosystem and the inhabitants. Based on this,
the researcher recommends that health education should be given to the public
on the implication of environmental degradation to ensure that it is eliminated.
